We will be running the Miller Rock Trail

Miller Rock is rated a 5/10 by Trails Off Road and offers a variety of terrain, including shelf roads, rocky obstacles, forested trails, creek crossings, and scenic views of the South St. Vrain Creek area.

Trails Off Road describes Miller Rock as:

"Located in the Arapahoe National Forest, west of the town of Lyons, Miller Rock is a moderately trafficked, out-and-back trail that will lead you to the Miller Rock rock formation, the South St. Vrain Creek, and the remains of an old sawmill site. The three branches of this trail system offer users different options from a moderate drive through the thick forest to some great camping and hiking locations, the ability to test your rig‘s flex and capability over rock and washout obstacles, and also the option of fording a creek or taking a dip in the cold creek waters.

This trail system is entirely landlocked by private property on all sides, making it an out-and-back route. Miller Rock starts climbing out of the valley floor very quickly on a narrow shelf road with limited opportunities to pass oncoming traffic during the first mile. Once out of the valley, there are several trail sections to explore, each ending at private property and requiring a return along the same route.

The entire track spans 13.3 miles. The road surface is mainly gravel, providing good traction when wheel speed is kept under control. There are only a couple of major obstacles, both located on the southeast finger of the trail. The first is a significant off-camber rock obstacle that will test suspension travel, and the second is a water crossing whose depth varies with snowmelt and rainfall.

This is an ideal trail for aggressive stock vehicles and moderately built vehicles with experienced drivers."

Don‘t be apprehensive due to this trail‘s name! It is an easy to moderate trail for the newer wheelers who are looking to get more experience and have a great time while doing it! This is going to be a shorter trail day (intend to be on the trail for less than 2 hours with the option for more). Everyone is welcome to enjoy this beautiful trail (especially those who have never been on it), but don‘t expect big obstacles if that‘s what you‘re looking for. You‘re also welcome to bring passengers - just be mindful that they are your responsibility. https://www.trailsoffroad.com/US/colorado/trails/281-devils-canyon The plan: 1. Arrive at air down location sometime after 9:30am for the driver‘s meeting 2. Start the trail at 10:00am 3. Take a lunch break on the trail 4. Finish Devil‘s Canyon close to 1:00pm; possibly earlier 5. Those interested can continue on nearby trails that are similar in difficulty What to bring? Food for lunch, plenty of water, your vehicle with a filled tank, and a ready-to-have-fun mindset. This is P-4‘s Adopted trail.
Upper Geneva Creek is a journey through striking alpine landscapes topped with a healthy dose of Colorado mining history. This trail passes through a peaceful valley popular for dispersed camping and climbs to elevations above 11,000 feet, where you can explore weathered remains of mining structures and seasonal towns that are now relics of Colorado’s gold rush days. Along the drive, you are offered the opportunity to hike to a natural marvel unique to only a handful of places on Earth: iron-rich wetlands that create an otherworldly scene with vibrant, rust-colored hues against lush greens and mountain tops. This high-altitude adventure is a rare blend of scenic beauty and rich history, making it a must-drive for anyone drawn to Colorado’s untamed spirit.

We will meet at the Shaggy Sheep Restaurant 50455 US Hwy 285, Grant, CO 80448 at 8 for breakfast and we can leave for the trail at 9 for the trail head. There may be some work to do but usually not much (Unless you want to spend 2 hours shoveling snow only to go 50 more feet). Be sure to bring gloves, shovels, saws (not chain). As usual bring water, sunscreen and the GRMS radio.

Join P-4 as we run the Eagle Rock trail west of Colorado Springs. Once you start the climb on Gold Camp Road it becomes very scenic with some great views of Colorado Springs. The trail is rated a 6 with some bypasses. We will meet up at the Natural Grocers S Nevada Ave @ 9:15 and depart for the trail head at 9:30. Its about a 15 minute drive to the trail head from the meetup spot.

This is a great off-road trail that‘s close to Colorado Springs and provides a good challenge to vehicles that are a little more than stock but still offers some fun routes for more built rigs. There‘s also many trails in this area that you can explore that vary in level of difficulty. The drive up to the trail gives you great views of Colorado Springs. The first part of the trail consists of a large hill with rocks you must navigate through. There is a bypass for the first section, but the second area has similar rocks and some switchbacks. Most of the other obstacles have bypasses. There are a few creek crossings and areas that require you to squeeze through skinny spots in the trees. It‘s is an easy trip from the Springs but is also a nice getaway for camping.

Be sure to bring lunch plenty of water, sunscreen and the GRMS radio.

Join P-4 as we run the Bill Moore Lake in the dark. The trail is located above Empire and is rated a 4. We will meet up at 8:00 at the ball field in Empire and depart for the trail @ 8:30PM.
About an hour from Denver and situated within the Arapahoe National Forest, Bill Moore Lake 4X4 Road is one of the Empire Loop trails just above Empire, Colorado. This trail offers amazing alpine scenery and fun hill climbs for novice and seasoned wheelers. At the end of the rough terrain, you are rewarded with a magnificent alpine lake on the edge of the James Peak Wilderness.
The Bill Moore Lake Trail is an out-and-back trail considered to be part of the Empire 4X4 Loop. Ninety-five percent of the trail has passing areas except for a quarter-mile stretch between Waypoints 16 and 17. The trail begins by following County Road 251 for the first couple miles through a more wooded area filled with whoop-de-dos and washouts. Once you pass the Conqueror Mine, it follows a shelf road before one last narrow switchback. The road first joins with Forest Service Road 171.1 for 300 yards and then joins 183.1, where the forest thickens before it climbs to the fringes of the timberline, giving way to a general alpine and open space. Once in the alpine zone, there are plenty of moderately steep climbs with loose rocks. 4 low and high clearance are recommended for this trail, along with undercarriage protection.
Be sure to bring dinner plenty of water, sunscreen and the GRMS radio.

Join P-4 as we run Red Cone trail. The trail is located outside Grant, CO and is rated a 5/6. An OHV sticker is required. We will meet up at 8:00 AM at the Loaf & Jug 173 Bulldogger Road, Bailey, CO 8042 and depart for the trail at 8:30.
Red Cone is one of the most iconic trails in central Colorado. This four-wheel-drive trail provides spectacular views of the divide, with several rocky obstacles at the beginning and a once-in-a-lifetime descent near the end. The upper portion of the trail traverses the ridge lines around 12,000 feet with views for miles, but the steep, one-way descent at the end is a unique feature of this trail. Red Cone is also a key connecting trail to nearby trails, such as Webster Pass and the Montezuma trail system. Combining this with those trails creates a full day of offroad fun. A well-equipped vehicle with high clearance and low range is required.
Red Cone‘s south end climbs steeply as you wind through the forest with sporadic rock obstacles, small creek crossings, and several muddy sections. The climb continues above the tree line, across a few ridges, until you reach the very top of Red Cone. At this point, the trail becomes one-way and descends downhill until it meets Webster Pass. The descent from Red Cone is a steep, loose rock hill requiring low range. This trail requires an experienced driver.
The south side of Webster Pass, also known as the Handcart Gulch section, stays snowed in till late July or August, but Red Cone only opens for the season once the north side of Webster Pass is clear, so there is always an exit from the trail. Heading south down Webster would return you to the start of the trail and Highway 285, while heading north on Webster will drop you into the towns of Montezuma or Keystone.
Be sure to bring lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen and the GRMS radio.

Join P-4 as we run Wheeler Lake Trail. The trail is located outside Alma, CO and is rated a 5-7 with some bypasses. We will meet up at 8:30 AM at the Sinclair gas station in Fairplay, CO 640 US Hwy 285 and depart for the trail at 8:45.
When you think of Colorado offroading, what do you think of? Maybe majestic snowcapped peaks, fields of wildflowers lined with pine trees, or crystal-clear mountain lakes? Well, if you have the rig to do it, Wheeler Lake checks all of those boxes! Located in the Pike National Forest, Wheeler Lake is the quintessential Colorado high-altitude offroad adventure. From the towering peaks (some of which are 14ers) that surround you as you ascend a thick and lush vegetated valley to the mining remnants from the past, Wheeler Lake will have you and your passengers looking out the windows in every direction right from the get-go. Although the scenery along the way will pull your attention away from the trail, don‘t let it - this trail has a few tricky obstacles that will give mildly built rigs a run for their money, and even very built rigs will have an opportunity to really stretch out. Flopper, V-Notch, and Bowling Ball Hill are all aptly named obstacles that will stand in your way before your final ascent up to Wheeler Lake. At the end of this trail, you will be experiencing Colorado at its finest - a picturesque, crystal-clear mountain lake fed by snowmelt from the surrounding peaks, all within reach of your offroad rig, of course. Bring your family, bring your friends. Wheeler Lake is one of those trails that, if it‘s not on your Colorado bucket list, it needs to be.
The trail is a traditional out & back with several spots that are difficult to pass. There are two main large rock obstacles, "Flopper" and "The V-Notch," which will challenge stock vehicles. There‘s also a big hill climb near the end named "Bowling Ball Hill" due to the bowling ball-sized rocks covering it. Bring lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen and GRMS radio.

Join P-4 as we run Kingston Peak. The trail is located outside Rollinsville, CO and is rated a 4. We will meet up at 8:30 AM at Howlin‘ Wind Brewing and Blending in Rolllinsville at the NE corner of Hwy 119 and Tolland Road and depart for the trail at 9:00 a.m.

Situated about an hour from the Denver and Boulder Metro areas, Kingston Peak is a high-altitude trail that is a must-do for anyone in the area. Although they call this the Kingston Peak Trail, the real beauty and focal point are the amazing views of James Peak for almost the entire route. James Peak is 13,294 feet and is named in honor of Dr. Edwin James, an early explorer, historian, and botanist who was a member of the famous Stephen H. Long expedition to Colorado in 1820.
The road up Kingston Peak is approximately 8.2 miles and takes 2 to 4 hours, depending on your rig. The trail is generally very rocky, with steep climbs and descents. You can also access the Yankee Hill Network via Forest Service Road 271.1 from this road. As described here, starting from the north and running south, the trail quickly climbs above the timberline, where it narrows with limited passing but with plenty of visibility of oncoming vehicles. It passes the James Peak Lake hiking trailhead‘s parking area just before climbing to the highest point. The trail then descends into a flat area before making a steep climb up to a knob just before the final descent into Alice and St. Mary‘s Glacier.

Be sure to bring lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen and a GRMS radio.

Join P-4 as we run the Holy Cross City Trail. The trail is located outside Minturn, CO and is rated a 7-10 and has limited bypasses. This will be a trail run with camping by the trailhead the Friday night before.
Located in the Sawatch Range, on the side of 14,009 foot Mount of the Holy Cross, Holy Cross City is one of the state‘s most challenging and famous rock-crawling trails. Stock vehicles should not attempt this trail. Best known for its two most significant obstacles, French Creek and Cleveland Rock, this trail will test your driving ability and your vehicle‘s durability, while also providing incredible scenery and fantastic historical highlights. Before attempting this Jeep Badge of Honor trail, be sure you have the required equipment indicated at the trailhead. This includes a winch, 33‘‘ or larger tires, locking differentials, and various recovery and repair equipment. This trail is always crowded on the weekends, so expect a full day on the trail as you wait your turn to conquer the major obstacles.

Holy Cross City is an out-and-back trail that starts by quickly climbing the mountainside with a handful of small boulder obstacles. The first 1.3 miles are one-way uphill only, followed by the exit intersection. If you have problems traversing the trail to this point, you should consider taking the exit. Beyond the one-way section, the obstacles increase in size and difficulty. Along this 4-mile trail, there are many small off-camber rock obstacles between the five major obstacles; The Notch, Steep Rock, French Creek, Tippy Tree, and Cleveland Rock. Holy Cross City is a trail for experienced drivers with modified vehicles. Be sure your vehicle is equipped with the proper equipment, including recovery gear.

There is no cell service along this trail, and the closest town with any services is over 40 minutes away from the trailhead.
Be sure to bring lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen and the GRMS radio.

Join P-4 as we run Ironclads and Millers Rock outside Allenspark, CO. This trail is 5/6 and has limited bypasses. We will meet up a the Nederland Park & Ride 268 West 2 ed Ave, Nederland, CO at 8:30 and depart for the trail at 8:45.
Located a short distance west of Lyons, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, Ironclads is a rocky and rugged 4x4 trail offering a mix of challenging obstacles from ledges, steep ascents and descents, rock gardens, and narrow sections that require careful maneuvering. Ironclads is an excellent trail to practice line selection and tire placement without the fear of severe damage or deadly consequences. Camping in the area is very popular, and OHV usage is abundant. Close to the metro area, this is a popular, year-round wheeling spot that is sure to be crowded nearly every weekend. Combine Ironclads with several other trails in the area to make a full day of offroad adventure.
Located in the Arapahoe National Forest, west of the town of Lyons, Miller Rock is a moderately trafficked, out-and-back trail that will lead you to the Miller Rock rock formation, the South St. This trail system is entirely landlocked by private property on all sides. Thus it is an out and back trail system.
Be sure to bring lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen and the GRMS radio.

Join P-4 as we run North Fork Swan, Saints John & Chihuahua Gulch. These trails are rated 3-4 and easy with great views. Meetup spot to be determined.
North Fork Swan River is an entry point into one of the best but less traveled networks of offroad trails along the Front Range. Located within striking distance of Breckenridge and not far from Denver, it is a favorite for locals and vacationers alike. On the trek, you will be rewarded with high-alpine tundra, historic cabins, and mining ruins. If you have more than an afternoon to spend on the trails, you can combine this trail with all the others in the area to have one amazing trip, complete with a memory-making dispersed campsite.
First, yes, it is Saints John, not Saint Johns. Keep reading to learn why. This 4WD trail runs along high alpine ridge lines for several miles with spectacular 360-degree views. And lest you get bored, there is a couple of hill climbs to keep things interesting. The trail‘s north end drops down into the forest below, making its way into the tiny town of Montezuma. In 1863, John Coley made the first silver strike in Colorado. He founded the boom town of Coleyville. However, in 1867, a group of wealthy Free Masons bought up much of the area claims, renaming the town Saints John for the two patron saints of the Free Masons: Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Evangelist. Thus Saints (plural) John. The current 4WD trail follows the route once taken by ox or mule-driven ore carts hauling the mined ore over the Continental Divide and down the Swan River Valley to the mills and rails in Breckenridge. The mines of Saints John produced silver until the 1950s. Now, feel free to correct everyone you meet who will probably call this Saint Johns.

One of the more popular trails in the Keystone area, Chihuahua Gulch is used by 4x4’s, hikers and sometimes a little horse traffic will be seen. The scenery on this trail will not disappoint.

06/05/26 The forest service has replied that Bald Mountain will open mid June, Green Ridge is still be evaluated and it is recommended not to make plans for this trail. We are a go for Kelly Flats and Bald Mountain. Formal trip will end after Bald Mountain. Choose to camp the night , head home or find local accommodations. Note: If Green Ridge is open folks can discuss running or not the next day, but it wont be part of the P4 trip. 05/28/26 Kelly Flats is open, Bald Mountain and Green Ridge are marked as closed as of today. I have emailed the forest service office to get an update. Note: if Heart Attack hill is wet/muddy we will bypass it and head for Bald Mountain. I had to remove description info below due to space limitations, please see Trails OffRoad for details. 05/06/26 Event is to be updated to include other trails in the area i.e. Bald Mountain, Green Ridge trail and will include camping.
Join P-4 as we run Kelly Flats (rated 5/7) and Bald Mountain (rated 5/5) outside Rustic, CO. Meetup at the Kelly Flats trailhead at 10am.

This trail is best suited for modified vehicles. Factory vehicles driven by an experienced off-road driver, and equipped with lockers and winches, could safely complete this trail with minimal undercarriage damage

Join P-4 as we run Bever Creek outside Grant, CO. This trail is not rated and can be done in a stock rig. If the timing is right we will have great views of the Aspens in full color. We will start on the north side of Kenosha pass and finish up in Jefferson. Meet up at the loaf & Jug 173 Bulldogger Road, Bailey, CO @ 9:00 and depart for the trail at 9:21.
This is an easy trail for drivers of all kinds who’d like a nice drive in the woods. Off of Hall Valley Road, Beaver Creek offers a little challenge for stock vehicles and some amazing views of the forest throughout including Beaver Creek and its natural dams, and connects to the network of trails in the Jefferson Lake area.
Beaver Creek (FS 123) starts out a little rough and rocky but smooths out towards the end. The trail connects 285 to a trail network that leads up by Jefferson Lake. There are no specific obstacles to note here, just rocks in the road that should be minded.
This trail is closed from January 1st until June 15th due to the Pike/San Isabel Forest Lawsuit. Read more about it in the "Access Issues" of this write-up. There may be no gates or signs depending on Forest Service resources, but be assured that the trail is closed at that time due to the Pike/San Isabel land lawsuit and you WILL get ticketed at some point.

Be sure to bring lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen and the GRMS radio.

Hello Mile High Jeepers! Patrol 1, the Hobo Jeepers are happy to announce that once again we will be hosting the Mile High Jeep Club Creepy Crawl. The event will be on Saturday October 10th at William C. Russell Park in Central City. Please come around 5:00 - 5:30 pm to start the festivities. Snacks, hot chocolate etc. will be provided. If you have not attended this event previously, it’s a family friendly event where you will be challenged to test your nerve against ghosts and goblins as you wander through the old cemeteries of the Central City area. Follow clues as they guide you to places unknown and contemplate your own mortality to acquire the knowledge to survive the night and complete your quest. (Think of a type of scavenger hunt) There will be a pre-event huddle to review the rules and handout the clues around 5:45pm. At 6:00pm we will send you on your way to find the answers to the clues. Be back at the park by 8:00pm for snacks, hot drinks and prizes/awards based on how well you answered the clues and other stuff. Some things to remember for this event: - Dress warm! - Bring flashlights to help find clues - Bring paper and pencil/pen pen for taking notes. You will be provided coordinates to guide you to each cemetery so you will need a navigation tool: - A non-cell phone based GPS works best - Google Maps on your phone should work IF you download the maps around Central City ahead of time. Cell service is sketchy.
